Often used for production in the form of extracts or essential oils, but in mixology is used as a spice that gives the main flavour to gin and various types of bitters. From the predecessor of modern gin, Genevera (first mentions from 13th to 17th century, literal meaning: Juniper) made in Netherlands, gaining popularity in England in the early 18th century, and through prohibition in the United States in the first part of the 20th century, gin is experiencing expansion in stages which we are witnessing even today. From the generic category, gin has become a drink of great popularity with a multitude of brands, from worse to superpremium gins, which are also accompanied by a large selection of tonics. There are a high quality juniper berries in the Mediterranean area. It is used as a decoration, but also as a primary ingredient which emphasizie the taste of gin.
